Simms Fishing Products launched their S.O.S. campaign last month. The idea is simple – sell t-shirts depicting some iconic waterways to help raise money and awareness towards their protection. Last month it was the Yellowstone River, a much maligned but beloved river in Montana. This month it’s the BWCA – a place close to my heart.
They approached me to create artwork depicting the BWCA and of course I chose a smallie, a canoe and a pine covered rock island. If you’ve never fished the BWCA on a paddle-in camping trip, you are missing out. The BWCA is nothing short of amazing.
$5 from every shirt goes to orgs fighting the good fight. For the BWCA, it’s the Sportsmen For the Boundary Waters; check out their mission and work here.
T-shirts can be purchased in both mens and women’s sizes online via Simms. They can also be found at fly shops (my locals are fully stocked…but the shirts are moving fast!).
There are also a bunch of events in MN tied into this campaign. I plan on being at the ones in Twin Cities. We’re going to raffle off gear, some of my art and other goodies with every t-shirt purchase. It’s all going towards raising some money, but maybe more importantly raising awareness to the fact that these special places are under attack; in some respects, all the time.
It takes constant vigilance and dedicated focus to protect them. Not all of us can directly get involved, but the more that are aware, and do what they can, the better.
Check out Simms Facebook page for all the events, or visit the Sportsmen for The Boundary Waters event page here.
